One of the primary factors to have a successful homeschooling system is to have a sound grading system. In most cases, grading has to be done by the mother of the child, which is a very tricky situation, for any mother would find it rather hard to grade her own child.

Also, the lack of any benchmarks and awareness of how the other children are doing, makes it even tougher for the mother to grade her child perfectly. For all these reason, the traditional method of grading is hardly apt for homeschooling.

The primary criteria while grading a child undergoing homeschooling, is to assess the child's knowledge and understanding of a subject. If a child has not understood a subject, it is of crucial importance, to go through the subject again and again, till the outcome changes.

In such a scenario, the child benefits in two ways. First, the child is given the confidence that a particular topic will be repeated till the time he/she has properly understood the topic. Secondly, the child is also assured that once he/she has fully understood the topic, he/she will get the adequate results and rewards. The latter especially is a huge motivational factor for kids.

The problem is that when having to judge one's own child, often emotions over-power the rationale. The mother has to make sure that she don't yield to the cries or the tears of the child, for often a child uses them to resist certain topics
or subjects. Especially when dealing with tougher concepts, children have a tendency to loose focus and get restless. It is then your own responsibility to take adequate measures to prevent this. A child needs to be taught the importance of a lesson and helped to master it. This is quintessential to ensure the proper growth of a child.

There are some states that have annual tests and parents should enroll their children in these tests in order to compare the child's ability with his peers. These tests help in revealing the success of the homeschooling method for your child and are recommended for everyone. One tends to discover unknown areas of strengths and weakness of the child through these tests and based on them, one can primarily focus on specific subjects. Some states also require the submission of a homeschool report card and therefore, the parents should keep a record of the yearly development of their child in various factors, such as punctuality, discipline etc.

The parents also have many external tests available to them, that can help them measure the development of their child better. Several websites that deal with schooling of children of various age-groups are present on the Internet. Many of these websites, have material that can be downloaded for free. This is a customized and cheap method to assess the child. With a proper and effective grading technique, homeschooling can enhance the growth and boost the confidence of a child to a great extent and these scores will reflect the true intelligence of a child.
