Infiniti Moves More Automobile Production Outside Japan

Following on the heels of a recent announcement by Mercedes-Benz that the company would be moving most of its automobile production outside of Japan, Japanese auto rival Infiniti brand announced it would be doing the same thing. The reason behind both of these ventures is the constant strengthening of the Japanese yen. In fact, some experts say that increases in the yen's value spells disaster for all manufacturing companies in that country.

Andy Palmer, Vice President of Infiniti recently revealed to Automotive News that in addition to the 2013 Inifiniti JX, a supped-up seven-passenger vehicle which will be produced by Nissan in Smyrna Tennessee, several other new Infiniti models would also be produced outside of Japan. One of these models will be the production version of the 2011 Infiniti Etherea Concept, which is a new entry-level model for the company that may be labeled a "DX." It's likely that this particular model will be built in Europe, but Infiniti is also looking at China as a viable option, especially since the Nissan division recently established a new global headquarters in the large city of Hong Kong. Palmer explains the brand's strategy for relocation of production: "Clearly, we're working on one strategy. As cars come up for renewal, generally they're being relocated in a function of where the majority of sales are."1 In addition to relocation, Infiniti plans to increase the use of parts sourced from outside Japan from the current level of 15 percent up to around 65 percent.

While we hope that Infiniti moves more production to the United States, we know that its new models will always be of the finest quality. In fact, we currently have many high-quality new and used Infiniti vehicles in stock at our 3040 Adams St Riverside, CA 92504 location. Interested in purchasing or leasing one of these vehicles?
