BMW of Bloomington has some great news to start this year off: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety just rated the 2011 BMW x3 a top safety pick! Is that exciting or what? Especially since the X3 is also one of the finalists for North American Truck of the Year! The X3 received a ranking a good ranking in the side impact, roof crush, rear impact and frontal off-set crash tests allowing it to take the high honors.
The test results concluded from the crash test dummy movement that there was a very low risk there would have been substantial injuries even from such an intense crash. This is probably because there are so many excellent safety features in the X3 besides even the airbags which cover the front, side, head and even the knees! The dynamic stability control and the xDrive all-wheel drive system give the X3 incredible handling that’s more responsive than ever! There’s also a head-up display so that the driver maintains appropriate focus on the road.
During the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s roof-strength test, they push a metal plate on a corner of the roof which measures an approximation of what happens during a rollover crash. The BMW X3 scored higher than many of its other competitors with a 4.69 strength-to-weight ratio. And during the side impact test, the IIHS group found that the crash test dummy’s head was covered by the side curtain airbag and not able to be penetrated or hit any hard structures!
We at BMW of Bloomington are proud to be selling such a safe automobile. If you’re interested in the X3 or any other BMI, please contact us online or by phone at (877)398-2018. We’re looking forward to seeing you down at the lot in the near future.
